Every year, 2.6 million children die of starvation. Phenomenex is dedicated to helping reduce this number. For two days in mid-May, managing director of Phenomenex Italy, Mr. Alberto Albieri, and the wonderful Italian team held their annual meal-packing event with Stop Hunger Now Italia, packing 36,000 meals that will be sent to children in great need in Burkina Faso, Africa.
Phenomenex Italy organized and sponsored the event, paying all costs associated with it, including the cost of the meals, manpower, and hosting of the over 250 volunteers, which included Phenomenex staff, customers, local schools, and community members. Food made and packed from this event ensures that children in need receive a nutritious meal to eat every day, giving them a chance to thrive and ensuring a healthier, brighter future for themselves and their families. “I feel so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful mission,” says Mr. Albieri, managing director of Phenomenex and president of Stop Hunger Now Italia. “No child should go hungry. By providing them with this food, we give them the opportunity to grow, to go to school and learn skills or even a trade that can change their future and the future of their families for the better. I believe it is our responsibility to help children have the best life possible.”
Since Mr. Albieri and his colleague, Dr. Andrea Gheduzzi, technical manager of Phenomenex Italy, first founded Stop Hunger Now Italia in 2012, the organization has packed over 780,000 meals for needy children, and most of these meals were packed thanks to the financial support of Phenomenex through company events. This number is expected to grow exponentially because, as of this month, all Phenomenex companies in Europe can now plan their own packaging events and be supported by Stop Hunger Now Italia. The Vatican, in seeking to better understand how to engage and organize people in Italy and all of Europe in philanthropic efforts and honor those so deeply committed to charity, invited Mr. Albieri to share his experiences.
“There is far more to Phenomenex than just science. Day in and day out, we bring our company mission to life ‘to promote the well-being of those we serve – our customers, our employees, and humanity,’” says Fasha Mahjoor, President and CEO of Phenomenex. “Giving back to the community and those less privileged is intertwined into the very fabric of who we are.”
