Torrance, CA (August 7, 2013) The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region, a volunteer-led humanitarian organization that helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to local emergencies, has elected Fasha Mahjoor to its board of directors. The appointment is a key step in the Red Cross’s continued efforts to reach out to all communities within the L.A. Region as part of its its PrepareSoCal campaign.

Fasha Mahjoor is the founder and CEO of Phenomenex, a global leader in the research, development, manufacturing and distribution of leading edge separation science solutions. With over 750 employees and companies in 15 countries, Phenomenex is widely known for its passionate dedication to philanthropy. Having recently received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his humanitarian efforts, Mahjoor is deeply committed to supporting many worthy philanthropic causes. In addition to his work with the American Red Cross, including blood drives and disaster relief fundraising, Mahjoor actively supports The Outward Bound Trust educational charity, The Cheers Foundation orphanage in India, Feed My Starving Children, and Stop Hunger Now. “I am honored to be invited to be an American Red Cross Board Member. It is a privilege, and I will carry on the duties to the best of my ability. I hope I can be a valuable member and that my contributions will make a real difference,” Mahjoor remarked.

“We welcome Mr. Mahjoor to this board of talented and respected business leaders who are committed to helping others,” said Red Cross L.A. Region volunteer Board Chair Martin Cozyn, Executive Vice President, Human Resources at Occidental Petroleum. “Working with five local chapter boards - in Long Beach, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Glendale and Antelope Valley - we ensure the Red Cross - is there to assist families and individuals across the region.”

Regional and chapter board members serve as important volunteer leadership partners of the American Red Cross. They help the Red Cross to meet the needs and expectations of the community, while supporting the overall mission of the Red Cross: to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.
